Scott "Scooter" Taylor '90, being inducted into Walsh Jesuit's Athletic Hall of Fame class of 2024 by emcee, Johnna Zaccari

Mr. Scott Taylor '90
Scott "Scooter" Taylor '90 was one of the best basketball players in the storied tradition of the Warriors program. Scooter still holds the school record in career 3- Pointers, earned the Gus Johnson Award and the NEO Catholic Conference MVP in 1989 and 1990, and was an All-State Honorable Mention. In 1990, Scooter earned 2nd team All-District and All NE Ohio. The Warriors Team Captain and MVP also ranks 3rd in Most Career Points and Highest Season Scoring Average.

The 2-time State Wrestling Champion also helped carry the Warriors to back-to-back-to-back State Championships in 1995, 1996 and 1997. Sonny Marchette won individual State titles in 1996 and 1997 and ranks #1 in Most Technical Falls and Most Takedowns in a season. Marchette is also #10 in all-time wins at WJ.

Mr. Dennis Thompson ' 00
Dennis Thompson was an elite 3-sport athlete for the Warriors, and an integral figure in the 1999 Football State Championship and the 1997, 99 and 2000 Wrestling State title teams. On the gridiron, Thompson earned both 1st and 2nd team All-State during his career. He was also twice named to the Plain Dealer Dream Team, an Honorable Mention All-American, Akron Beacon Journal All-Summit and All-District, a Big 33 All-Star game participant, and AP Northeast All-Inland twice. Thompson also earned accolades as a wrestler: Sectional and District Champion in 2000 and a 2-time state qualifier.

Mr. Tony Dipre '06
Arguably the best runner in Warrior history, Tony Dipre was a 4-year letter winner at WJ while being named an All-State runner all 4 years. Dipre was also a 2-time Academic All-Ohio and 2-time team MVP. He still holds the school record in the 800m and is in the top 10 all-time in the 1600m. Dipre anchored the 4 x 800 Relay to a State title and was a Regional Champion in the 800m. His terrific career included a team event National Championship at Allegheny College.

On the soccer fields of one of the most prolific programs in Ohio, few did it better than Michael Nanchoff. In his senior season alone, Nanchoff was the team MVP, the Plain Dealer Player of the Year, 1st-Team All-Ohio, 1st Team All-American and recorded a school record 31 assists in leading the Warriors to a State Championship. Considered by most to be the best soccer player in WJ history, Nanchoff went on to be a 4-year starter at the University of Akron, winning the National Championship in 2010 as captain of that Zips team. He also played professionally after college, being the #8 overall pick by the Vancouver Whitecaps in the 2011 MLS Draft.

It would be impossible to list all the accolades Sandra Yu earned in her time as a Warrior. The 2-time State Champion is in the top 5 all-time in points at WJ even though she missed her entire Junior season due to injury. Her talents earned her 2 Ohio Gatorade High School Player of the Year Awards, 2- time NSCAA High School All-American honors, the title of Miss Ohio Soccer by Ohio Soccer Coaches Association, and recipient of the 2012 Plain Dealer and Akron Touchdown Club Player of the Year. Yu was a three-time selection to the PD "Best of the Best", an ESPN High School National Player of the Week, and in 2013 was named to the U-20 Women's National Team.

Wally Lutkus (Swim Coach, retired) inducted into the Walsh Jesuit Athletic Hall of Fame.

Wally Lutkus guided the Warriors Swimming and Diving teams for 21 years, compiling a stellar 157-22 record in dual meets on the men's side, and 136-36 leading the women's team. Coach Lutkus coaches 6 individual state champions and 1 state champion relay team. During his time 49 WJ swimmers and divers earned USA Swimming All-American status. He was also Coach of the Year 7 times in the North Coast League.
