The winter season is in full swing and this past week has brought plenty of excitement. Both men's and women's basketball teams have played multiple games, the men's and women's bowling teams have been dominant, while swimming and diving and the wrestling programs officially started their seasons last week.
On Monday, Dec. 1, men's bowling defeated Norwayne High School, 2212-1947, and on Wednesday, Dec. 3, both varsity bowling teams defeated Garfield High School. The men's team won 2085-991 and the women's team took the victory, 1900-894. On Dec. 9, the Warriors' won 1757-1358 on the women's side and 2321-1364 on the men's side against North High School.
Walsh Jesuit ice hockey came back home after going 1-1 against a couple good teams last weekend. The Warriors defeated Findlay 2-1, on Friday, and then fell in overtime, 2-1, against Sylvania Northview, on Saturday. Warrior Goalie
Nathan Lombard stopped 82 of 85 shots with 62 saves coming against Northview on Saturday.
Also on Friday night, the men's basketball team hosted North Royalton in The Dome and took a 40-33 lead into halftime. Royalton was able to rally late with some key shooting to knock off the Warriors by a final of 77-71. The young Warriors are slowly getting their roster back to full strength.
Last Wednesday, Dec. 3, women's basketball picked up a 55-43 victory over St. Joseph Academy. In that game,
Kami DiGennaro 22 points and five steals, while
Kara Esterak added 14 points, five rebounds and six assists. On Saturday, the Warriors were tied at 25 with Avon at halftime. WJ fought hard, but fell to the Eagles by a score of 49-42. In the game,Â
Leah Sobolewski had 17 points, Esterak added 12 points. The Warriors defeated Cleveland Central Catholic, on Monday, Dec. 8, by a score of 64-16. Esterak had 16 points, Sobolewski added 15 and
Josii Webb finsihed with 11.
