Buddy Rottinghaus is the most accomplished running back in the storied history of Walsh Jesuit Football.  Buddy had a bruising style that served him well as the primary ball carrier for 3 seasons.  During that time he etched his name at the top of the record books.  He was near the top in yards rushed for a in a season and touchdowns scored in a season.  Buddy graduated as the all-time leading rusher in Walsh Jesuit history and was the only person to rush for 3,000 yards in a career, finishing with 3,258 yards.  He set the record for the most rushing touchdowns in a career with 39 and the career points leader at 234.  During those three seasons Walsh Jesuit finished with a 32-5 mark, 27-2 in the regular season, including a perfect 6-0 mark against STVM and Hoban.

The work ethic he showed led to him being one of only three players to be a two-time captain, joining hall of famers Rick Kase from the Class of 1970 and teammate Derik Warnke as the only two-time captains in WJ history.  Because of his efforts, Buddy was named Akron Beacon Journal and Plain Dealer All-District, and Plain Dealer Best of the Best after the 1995 season and joined the ranks of the truly elite in Walsh Jesuit football by being named First Team All-State following Buddy's senior year.
